Example Itinery

Day 1

Port Melbourne - Spirit of Tasmania - Bass Strait

6.00 pm - Depart Clubrooms to travel to station pier, Port Melbourne to board the Spirit of Tasmania for the overnight crossing of Bass Strait to Devonport. After settling into your cabins, explore the many interesting features of the Ship, enjoy the views of the city skyline as we cruise down Port Phillip Bay.

DAY 2

Devonport - Apples - Cataract Gorge - Launceston (Dinner)

On arrival into the Mersey River, Devonport, be greeted by your friendly Tasmanian Coach Captain and board your 5 star luxury coach. Begin with a tour of Devonport City and visit the Showcase Craft and Information Centre, before joining the Granny Smith express for an enjoyable insight into the apple industry at Avro Park Apple Orchards. Continue inland to the rural town of Shefield and admire the many life like murals painted on the town walls depicting the history of the region. Early afternoon travel is via the Bass Highway to Launceston, Tasmania's second largest city. Highlights include the City Centre and beautiful Cataract Gorge with its cliffside gardens, suspension foot bridge and the longest single span chair lift in the World. Ride is optional - own expense.

DAY 3

Tamar Valley -  Swiss Village - Richmond - Hobart (Breakfast Dinner)

Enjoy views of the vineyard studded Tamar Valley from a bushrangers lookout and Grindewald Swiss Village set amidst lakes with magnificent river and mountain views. Travel the heritage highway through Campbell Town and fine wool growing regions of the Midlands to the historic village of Ross with it's Herbert Archer carved stone bridge. Follow the Coal River Valley through Campania and Colebrook to historic Richmond village, where we travel across Australia's oldest stone bridge to visit our oldest Catholic Church. There will be time to stroll the streets and discover some of the delightful craft shops, art galleries, bakeries and tearooms before continuing across the Derwent River into the City of Hobart, our home for the next three nights.

DAY 4

Hobart City - Battery Point - Dinner Cruise (BD)

Our day around the City of Hobart, Australia's second oldest, includes a tour of historic Battery Point, Salamanca Place and Constitution Docks where the yachts tie up after Sydney - Hobart Race. Tour to the summit of Mt. Wellington (weather permitting) for panoramic views of the Derwent Estuary and surrounding countryside, before returning via bayside suburbs Sandy Bay and Taroona. Enjoy a stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens ablaze with colour, before spending time in the City Malls and Arcades or just relaxing in your motel. Tonight cruise the mighty Derwent River as we enjoy a 2.5 hour Dinner Cruise aboard "M. V. Emmalisa".

DAY 5

Tasmans Penninsula -  Port Arthur (Breakfast Dinner)

Today we enjoy coastal scenery and historic as we travel to the Tasman Peninsula and Port Arthur Convict Settlement. At Eaglehawk Neck view coastal geological formations, Tasman's Arch, Devils Kitchen and the blowhole before entering the Port Arthur Historical Site. Join a guided tour and learn of Australia's convict past and early history. There will be time to do your own exploring and take a short cruise on the harbour for views of Point Peur and the Isle of the Dead. Rejoin coach and return to our motel with time to relax and freshen up before dinner tonight in the motel restaurant.

DAY 6

Derwent Valley - Central Plateau - Queensland (Breakfast Dinner)

Departing Hobart this morning, follow the picturesque Derwent Valley through hop fields and hills to New Norfolk and visit St. Mathews Church with its beautiful stained glass windows and Craft Close nearby. Continuing westward, climb the Central Plateau past Hydro and trout lakes to Tarrleah Gorge, site of one of Tassie's oldest Hydro - Power Stations, and visit Lake St. Clair, Australi's deepest natural lake. Enter the Wild Rivers National Park and take a short rain forest walk to Nelson Waterfalls, before crossing Lake Burbury and winding down the face of Mt. Owen into the copper mining town of Queenstown with its bare and colourful hills. A tour of the town includes strolling the Miners Siding Memorial - a monument to over 100 years of mining and pioneering history of the area.

DAY 7

West Coast - Zeehan - NSW Coast - Spirit of Tasmania (Breakfast)

Touring this morning takes us to one time 'Silver City' of Zeehan, which once boasted 26 hostels. See the fabulous Gaiety Theatre where Dame Nellie Melba once sang, you may also wish to visit the Pioneer, Minerals and Loco Museum to once sang, you may also wish to visit the Pioneer, Minerals and Loco Museum to browse the excellent collection of rare and precious minerals, photographs, memorabilia, mining equipment and railway locomotives from the pioneering days of Tasmania's West Coast (own expense). Continue north through raw mining towns, mineral rich mountains and west coast rainforest to the North West Coast. Travel the scenic coast route through industrial city Burnie, rural Penguin and ULverstone to the City of Devonport, and tour Mersey Bluff before spending a short time in the City centre. Cross to the Ferry Terminal and RE-board Spirit of Tasmania for the overnight crossing of Bass Strait to Melbourne.

DAY 8

Port Phillip Bay - Port Melbourne

Early risers may view the entry through the Heads into the waters of Port Phillip Bay. Watch the Melbourne skyline come into view and disembark at Port Melbourne around 7.00 a.m. to be transferred by coach to your clubrooms after an exhilarating holiday on the  "Apple Isle".
